The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team will host Trine University in the first round of the MIAA Tournament, Presented by Collegiate Credit Union, on Saturday (April 25) at 6:30 p.m. at MacKenzie Field. The Hornets earned the No. 4 seed with a 5-2 record in conference play, along with a 9-8 overall record, while the Thunder went 3-4 in MIAA action and 8-7 overall to take the No. 5 seed.

The Hornets were led this season on offense by senior Ella Spooner, with a conference-high 63 goals and 22 assists, for 85 points, which ranks second on the program's single-season leaderboard. Just behind her was junior Tessa Fuller, with 54 goals and 28 assists for 82 points. Fuller already holds the Hornets' career assists record with 96.
Junior Kennedy Hynde has made a major impact for Kalamazoo in draw controls, leading the MIAA with 110 on the year, along with a team-high 45 ground balls, which led to four MIAA Specialist of the Week awards and one Defensive Player of the Week honor this season.
Kalamazoo's defense had major contributions from junior Annslee Ware, with 28 caused turnovers and 30 ground balls, along with Spooner's 32 caused turnovers leading the team. Junior goalkeeper Kaitlyn Grice played every minute in the cage this season for the Hornets, earning a 9-8 record, 10.99 goals against average and .395 save percentage.
In the regular season, Kalamazoo won at Trine, 22-12, on April 15. Spooner had seven goals and five assists, with Fuller adding five goals and two assists. Hynde added 14 draw controls to the winning effort for the Hornets.
The winner of Saturday's contest will advance to play at regular season MIAA Champion Hope College on Tuesday, April 28, with game time TBD.
