KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team beat Trine University, 21-5, Saturday in the MIAA Tournament, Presented by Collegiate Credit Union. It was the Hornets' first MIAA Tournament win in program history.
Kalamazoo came out hot, taking an 8-3 lead after the first quarter. The Hornets clamped down on defense in the second, increasing the lead to 12-3 at halftime.
In the second half, Kalamazoo kept charging, outscoring Trine 9-2 in the final 30 minutes.
Tessa Fuller led the Hornets with eight goals and two assists with five ground balls. Ella Spooner had six goals and two assists along with five draw controls.
Jordan Doyle had a team-high six assists to go with two goals and two caused turnovers. Sophie Hartl had a strong all-around game with two goals, one assist, nine draw controls and four ground balls.
Kennedy Hynde added six draw controls, three caused turnovers, one goal and one assist. Annslee Ware had four caused turnovers to lead Kalamazoo, plus four ground balls and two assists, while MacKenzie Newhall had three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Kaitlyn Grice made six saves in goal to earn the win.
