HOLLAND, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team lost, 18-13, at Hope College Tuesday in the semifinals of the MIAA Tournament, Presented by Collegiate Credit Union.
Kalamazoo came out hot, taking a 4-2 lead after the first quarter. Hope bounced back with a big second frame to secure an 8-6 lead at halftime.
The Hornets were fired up coming out of the locker room, scoring the first five goals of the third quarter to take an 11-8 lead. The Flying Dutch wouldn't be denied, though, scoring 10 of the last 12 goals to take back the advantage and ultimately the win.
Abbie Caza scored five goals to lead Kalamazoo, while Jordan Doyle had one goal and five assists for a team-high six points. Kennedy Hynde added two goals, two assists, four ground balls and three draw controls.
Tessa Fuller scored three goals, finishing the season with a program-record 95 points, and tied for the team lead in caused turnovers with three. Sophie Hartl was the final Hornet with multiple points on one goal and one assist with four ground balls.
Julia Kozal led the team with five ground balls, adding one assist, while Annslee Ware scored one goal with three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
In net for Kalamazoo, Kaitlyn Grice made eight saves in the loss. Ella Spooner, who became the Hornets' career leader in goals and points in Saturday's quarterfinal victory over Trine, added one assist to finish her career with 231 goals and 286 total points.
Kalamazoo women's lacrosse finished the season 10-9 and 5-2 in conference. The 10 total victories and five MIAA wins both tied program records.
