Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse earned a pair of MIAA Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week awards Monday (Feb. 23). Attacker Ella Spooner won Offensive Player of the Week and midfielder Kennedy Hynde won Defensive Player of the Week.
A senior from Holland, Mich. (West Ottawa), Spooner scored 11 goals with two assists, nine ground balls and four caused turnovers in two games on the week. Her seven goals led the Hornets as they posted a program-record 23 in the season-opening victory over Elmhurst.
A junior from North Muskegon, Mich. (Reeths-Puffer), Hynde had nine ground balls, nine draw controls, four caused turnovers and one goal in two games last week. She had six ground ball pickups, four caused turnovers and a goal in the 23-0 win over Elmhurst, following up that performance with seven draw controls on Saturday against Wooster.
The award is the second MIAA Offensive Player of the Week honor of Spooner's career (2/26/24) along with one Defensive Player of the Week (2/20/23) and one Specialist of the Week (4/21/25) award in her time with the Hornets. It was Hynde's first MIAA Player of the Week selection.
Kalamazoo women's lacrosse hosts Ohio Northern on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at MacKenzie Field.
