KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team opened the 2026 season with a 23-0 win over Elmhurst University Tuesday at MacKenzie Field. It was the most goals scored and largest margin of victory in program history, and Kalamazoo's first shutout since a 20-0 victory at Elmhurst on March 1, 2020.
The Hornets started hot with five goals in the first five minutes. Kalamazoo added two more in the first to go ahead 7-0 after the opening quarter.
Staying aggressive in the second quarter, the Hornets added five more goals to go into halftime up 12-0. In the third, Kalamazoo added four more goals before charging ahead for seven more in the fourth to secure the team record for single-game goals.
Ella Spooner led the Hornets in goals with seven along with one assist, five ground balls and three caused turnovers. Abbie Caza had a game-high nine points on six goals and three assists.
Tessa Fuller added eight points with four goals and a team-high four assists. Kennedy Hynde led Kalamazoo in both ground balls (6) and caused turnovers (4).
Kaitlyn Grice recorded the first shutout of her career, making three saves. Annslee Ware and Eiden Jonaitis both scored their first collegiate goals in the victory.
Kalamazoo women's lacrosse (1-0) hosts The College of Wooster (0-0) Saturday at 3 p.m. at MacKenzie Field.
