Kalamazoo College outfielder Robert Newland was named MIAA Baseball Position Player of the Week Tuesday (Feb. 17).
A senior from Bloomfield Hills, Mich. (Bloomfield Hills), Newland hit .571 (8-for-14) with two doubles, one triple, four walks, seven runs and four RBIs to help Kalamazoo baseball go 4-0 on the weekend. He also stole seven bases in eight attempts.
Newland, a two-time CSC Academic All-District honoree, also passed Cooper Mills for second all-time in stolen bases for the Hornets, now with 79 in his career.
Kalamazoo baseball is back in action this weekend to face Wittenberg, Carroll and Berea in Berea, Ky.
