CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Kalamazoo College baseball team improved to 4-0 with a 12-0 win in eight innings at No. 19 Pomona-Pitzer (5-2) Sunday afternoon.
After a scoreless three innings, Kalamazoo scored six runs in the top of the fourth highlighted by a 2-run single by
Ryar Rinehart and a 2-run double by
Caleb Moore. The Hornets added three runs in the seventh and three in the eighth capped off by a 2-run double by Rinehart making it 12-0.
Six of Kalamazoo's 13 hits were doubles, including three by
Caleb Moore who also drove in three runs.
Cam Kelly was 3-for-3 with a pair of walks and three runs scored.
Ryar Rinehart finished 2-for-4 with five RBIs.
Robert Newland singled, walked three times, stole two bases, and scored three runs.
Kalamazoo pitchers scattered six hits over eight innings while striking out six.
Carson Orvis went 4.2 innings in the start with four strikeouts.
Parker Aten struck out two and did not allow a hit in 2.1 innings of relief.
Cole Bronoel-Cuthrell and
Owen Schihl closed out the final inning.
The Hornets travel to Berea, Ky. next weekend for games against Wittenberg, Carroll and Berea.
