PASADENA, Calif. – The Kalamazoo College baseball team swept Caltech on Saturday to complete the three-game sweep of the Beavers. Kalamazoo won 10-0 in seven innings and 15-0 in eight innings on Saturday. The Hornets defeated Caltech 14-4 in seven innings in the series opener on Friday.
Game One
Kalamazoo scored 10 runs on 11 hits in a 10-0 win in seven innings. Kalamazoo scored three in the first, three in the second, one in the third, one in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Kalamazoo outhit Caltech 11-2 in the game.
Caleb Moore went 3-for-3 with a double, four RBIs and three runs scored.
Robert Newland went 3-for-3 with a double, two stolen bases and two RBIs.
Clay Cook had a pair of hits, an RBI, stolen base and three runs scored.
Logan Lockhart,
Carson Merritt and
Reece Omodio combined for the shutout. Lockhart struck out four while allowing just two hits in five innings in the start.
Game Two
Kalamazoo scored on in the first, four in the third, four in the fifth and six in the eighth en route to a 15-0 win.
Kalamazoo outhit Caltech 14-5 in the game.
Ryar Rinehart went 3-for-6 with a grand slam and a 3-run home run and tied his own school record with nine RBIs.
Cade Preissing went 3-for-4 with three doubles, two RBIs and four runs scored.
Caleb Moore had two hits with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Jacob Davis went 4.2 scoreless innings in the start, striking out six and walking none while scattering four hits.
Ben Van Nes,
Charlie Peterson and
Dillon Rodriguez pitched the final 3.1 scoreless innings. Van Nes struck out four.
Kalamazoo wraps up the California trip on Sunday with a single game at No. 19 Pomona-Pitzer scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. PST.
