Three members of the Kalamazoo College softball team –
Bella Caza,
Landrie Fridsma, and
Emma Newlove- were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, as announced on Tuesday, May 27
th.
To earn this honor, the student-athlete must be a starter or an important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA, and have played at least 90% or start in 66% of their team's competitions, and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
The Hornets capped their season with a 21-15 overall record, including a 9-7 mark in MIAA play, tying the program's single-season win record.
Caza, a senior from Beverly Hills, Mich. (Wylie E. Groves), finished the season tied for third on the team in hits (34) and walks (12), third on the team in RBIs (28), and broke the school record for career walks (57).
This season, she posted a .337 batting average and a .436 slugging percentage. Over her career, Caza tallied 391 at-bats, 101 hits, and 69 RBIs.
Defensively, she posted a .944 fielding percentage, finishing with a .931 career mark.
Fridsma, a sophomore from Grand Rapids, Mich. (East Kentwood), led the team in at-bats (124) and triples (6) this season. She also ranked second in runs (33), walks (14), and stolen bases (12), while batting .258 with a .403 slugging percentage.
Fridsma tied the school record for hits (4) against Smith and broke the school record for triples in a season.
Fridsma tallied 32 hits and 23 RBIs this season and owns career totals of 71 hits, 60 runs, and 41 RBIs.
She recorded a .937 fielding percentage in center field this year.
Newlove, a junior from Tecumseh, Mich. (Tecumseh), led the Hornets in home runs (7), RBIs (30), slugging percentage (.670), and walks (17). She also tied for the team lead in doubles (10) and was third in hits (34).
This season, Newlove broke school records for home runs in a season (7) and in a career (15).
She finished the year with a .330 batting average, 34 hits, and 30 RBIs. Her career totals include 93 hits, 71 RBIs, 30 doubles, and 15 home runs.
