Softball Falls in Season-Opening Doubleheader at Franklin

TRAFALGER, Ind. – The Kalamazoo College softball team opened the season with a doubleheader at Franklin College Saturday. The Hornets lost game one, 8-0 in five innings, and dropped game two, 4-3.

Game One (8-0 L)

Franklin started hot with five runs in the first inning. The Grizzlies added one run each in the third, fourth and fifth to earn the run rule victory.

Kalamazoo was no-hit in the loss, with Maddie Potts reaching on an error in the second for the Hornets' only baserunner.

Game Two, (4-3 L)

In game two, Franklin pushed across one run in the first, adding one more in the third and fifth innings to go ahead 3-0. Macy Ward doubled to left field and later scored on an error in the top of the sixth to bring the Hornets within two.

After the Grizzlies scored one in the bottom half to make it 4-1, Kalamazoo charged back in the seventh as Ward doubled home Nadene Hubbard to make it 4-2. Alyssa Hinkley then singled to bring in Potts, but Ward was thrown out at the plate attempting to score the tying run.

Grace Rocco (0-1) struck out five batters in a complete game effort in defeat. Ward and Hinkley had two hits each as Franklin outhit Kalamazoo 8-6 in the second game.
