Women's Lacrosse Collects Fourth Straight Win in Near Shutout over Franklin

FRANKLIN, Ind. - The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team collected its fourth straight win and moved to 4-1 on the season in another dominant victory, defeating Franklin 18-1 on Saturday.

Kalamazoo scored seven goals in the first quarter, including one with a player advantage, to lead 7-0 after 15 minutes of play. 

The Hornets got the running clock rolling in the second quarter at the 3:36 mark after scoring three goals to go up 10-0. Franklin scored its lone goal of the game 30 seconds later as K went into halftime leading 10-1.

The running clock got rolling again early in the third quarter, this time for good, as Kalamazoo scored another five goals in the frame. 

The Hornets tacked on another three goals in the fourth quarter on their way to a 17-goal win.

Kalamazoo outshot Franklin 33-14 overall, 25-6 on goal. Kalamazoo won 13-of-22 draw controls. Kalamazoo had 15 ground balls to Franklin's eight.

Ella Spooner led the team with nine points on six goals and three assists. Spooner also had seven draw controls, two caused turnovers, and a ground ball.

Tessa Fuller was one point behind Spooner with eight points on five goals and three assists. Fuller collected three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Hannah Heeren also scored five goals and added an assist for six points. Heeren also had five draw controls, three ground balls, and a caused turnover.

Jordan Doyle led the team with six assists in today's game. Lily Grelak and Sophie Hartl scored the other two goals for Kalamazoo.

Mackenzie Newhall had two caused turnovers and a ground ball defensively, then Julia Kozal, Grelak, and Hartl had two ground balls each.

Jordan Flink moved to 3-0 and made four saves in the first half. Poppy Balkema and Kaitlyn Grice split the second half of the action and Balkema made one save.

The Hornets are back in action at home on Saturday, March 16, when Kalamazoo hosts North Central at 1 p.m.
