KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team set new program records and won its third straight game in the dominant 22-5 win over Aquinas on Wednesday at MacKenzie Field.

Kalamazoo scored nine goals in the first quarter, including five in the final 2:20, to lead 9-0 after 15 minutes of play. 

The Hornets put away the 10th goal at the 14:05 mark in the second quarter to begin a running clock for the rest of the game. K scored another three times to go up 13-0 before Aquinas scored its first two goals. Kalamazoo got the two goals back before halftime and led 15-2 at the break. 

The Saints scored the first two goals of the third quarter before the Hornets answered with two themselves to lead 17-4 after three quarters. 

Aquinas scored its last goal with 12:21 left in the fourth quarter. Kalamazoo put away five more goals to capture the 22-5 win.

Kalamazoo outshot Aquinas 34-14 overall, 28-11 on goal. Kalamazoo won 24-of-30 draw controls. Kalamazoo had 17 ground balls to Aquinas' 14.

The Hornets set new program single-game assists (17) and points (41) records while tying the program single-game goals (22) record.

Tessa Fuller led the team with 10 points on two goals and eight assists. The assist total breaks the individual single-game assists record initially set by Rose Bogard and Amanda Moss at five. Fuller also added three ground balls and a caused turnover.

Hannah Heeren was the leading goal scorer with five to go with four assists, 13 draw controls, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers.

Jordan Doyle also had an excellent offensive game, with seven points on three goals and four assists.

Sophie Hartl had four goals, four draw controls, and two ground balls. Ella Spooner finished with three goals and six draw controls.

Julia Kozal (2), Natalie Maki (2), and Lily Grelak (1) scored the other five goals for Kalamazoo.

Mairin Boshoven had three ground balls and a caused turnover defensively, and Mackenzie Newhall added two ground balls and a caused turnover.

Jordan Flink moved to 2-0 and made six saves in the first 50 minutes. Poppy Balkema and Kaitlyn Grice split the last 10 minutes of action and did not see a shot come their way.

The Hornets are back in action on the road on Saturday, March 9, when Kalamazoo travels to Franklin at 3 p.m.
