KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team won its season opener 11-10 over Ohio Northern University on Angell Field Sunday afternoon.

Kalamazoo scored the first two goals of the game and led 5-2 after the first quarter. Kalamazoo went up 6-2 early in the second before taking a 7-4 lead into halftime.

Kalamazoo went up 8-4 early in the third, and led by as many as five (10-5), before Ohio Northern scored two to make it a 10-7 game after three quarters. The Polar Bears scored the first two in the fourth to make it 10-9. Kalamzoo made it 11-9 with 4:20 left before Ohio Northern scored again with 2:52 remaining. Ohio Northern had one more good shot attempt in the final minutes but s a save by Jordan Flink preserved the win for the Hornets.

Kalamazoo outshot Ohio Northern 25-16 in the game. The Hornets held a 26-22 edge in ground balls.

Rose Bogard led the Hornets with five goals, one assist, six draw controls and six ground balls.

Hannah Heeren also scored five goals with four draw controls and three ground balls. 

Mackenzie Maiorano scored the other goal and also was credited with an assist.

Jordan Flink made four saves in goal to preserve the win.
