Women's Lacrosse falls in season opener

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team kicked off its season Sunday afternoon at MacKenzie Field in a non-conference match-up with Oberlin College. The Yeowomen defeated the Hornets, 21-4.

Oberlin came out strong against the Hornets scoring four goals in the first five minutes of play and never looked back.

Down 9-0 with 12:38 remaining in the first half, Kalamazoo got itself on the scoreboard when Cecilia DiFranco scored on a free position shot.

The Hornets trailed Oberlin 13-2 at halftime after Anika Sproull added to K's total on a free position attempt of her own.

Rounding out the scoring for the Hornets in the second half were Amanda Moss and Sproull once again.

The Yeowomen ended with a 20-9 advantage in ground balls and a 46-14 advantage in shots.

Katie Johnson recorded 18 saves in goal for Kalamazoo.

The Hornets will look to bounce back on March 4 when they travel to Aurora. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
