Kalamazoo College baseball placed five student-athletes on All-MIAA teams, with three First Team players and two Second Team honorees, the conference announced Thursday. Logan Lockhart, Caleb Moore and Robert Newland all claimed a spot on the First Team, while Alex Fenkell and Cade Preissing earned Second Team recognition.
Lockhart, a senior pitcher/outfielder from Valparaiso, Ind. (Valparaiso), excelled in conference play with a 2.35 ERA, the third-lowest mark in the MIAA, across 30 2/3 innings, striking out 21 batters. This is his second consecutive First Team-All-MIAA honor.
A junior catcher from Pinckney, Mich. (Charyl Stockwell), Moore hit .291 in MIAA action with two home runs, three doubles, 18 runs and 15 RBIs, leading all catchers by holding opponent baserunners to a 63.6% stolen base percentage. Moore has now earned First Team all-conference two years in a row.
Newland, a senior outfielder from Bloomfield Hills, Mich. (Bloomfield Hills), hit .359 in conference with three home runs, six doubles, 23 runs, 19 RBIs and 18 stolen bases, the most in the MIAA this season. His 50 total bases were one off from the conference lead as well, and this is his first time on an All-MIAA team.
A senior second baseman from West Bloomfield, Mich. (Groves), Fenkell batted .318 in MIAA games with three home runs, three doubles, 18 runs and 17 RBIs. It was his first time being named All-MIAA.
Preissing, a junior shortstop from Niles, Mich. (Buchanan), hit a team-high .381 in conference with eight doubles, tied for fifth-most in the MIAA, one home run, 21 runs and 20 RBIs. This is his first time earning All-MIAA recognition.
For the Hornets, this is the fifth consecutive season with at least five All-MIAA players, and the sixth straight year with at least three players on the First Team. Kalamazoo plays TEAM in the MIAA Tournament Presented by Collegiate Credit Union Thursday at TIME.
