ADRIAN, Mich.– The Kalamazoo College baseball team lost twice Thursday and was eliminated from the MIAA Tournament, Presented by Collegiate Credit Union.
Game 1: Adrian 2, Kalamazoo 1
Adrian scored in the top of the first for a 1-0 lead, which remained until the fourth inning. After a pair of singles to lead off the bottom of the fourth, two sacrifices brought Ryar Rinehart in to score to tie it at one.
The Bulldogs broke through for another run in the top of the eighth. Kalamazoo had its best threat in the bottom half, but the potential tying run was cut down at the plate.
Cade Preissing led the Hornets with two hits, as Adrian outhit Kalamazoo 9-6 in the win.
Logan Lockhart went six strong innings on the mound, allowing one run on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Robert Ahlgren (5-2) was hit with the loss, allowing one run with two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings, and Owen Schihl finished the game with three strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings of work.
Game 2: Alma 4, Kalamazoo 3
Alma pushed across a run in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead. The Hornets got the run back in the fourth to tie the game, 1-1.
Rinehart smashed an RBI double in the fifth to give Kalamazoo its first lead of the day. Austin Keur added a two-out RBI double in the eighth to bring home an insurance run to make it 3-1.
The Scots scored three runs on an error in the bottom of the ninth for the walk-off victory.
Ben Van Nes worked his longest outing of the season to open things up on the mound for the Hornets, going three innings and allowing one run with two strikeouts. Cole Bronoel-Cuthrell then gave Kalamazoo four scoreless innings, striking out four batters.
Ahlgren took the next inning and a third for the Hornets before turning it over to Schihl (3-3) who was charged with the loss.
Keur led the offensive effort for Kalamazoo with three hits.
Kalamazoo awaits its fate in the NCAA-III Baseball Tournament Selection Show, which will be this Monday, May 11th at noon.
