Kalamazoo College's Derek Blackwell was named MIAA Men's Tennis Player of the Week Monday (May 4).
A sophomore from Troy, Mich. (Troy), Blackwell went 2-0 in singles matches in the MIAA Tournament Presented by Collegiate Credit Union last week, helping the Hornets once again win the tournament title. He won 6-2, 6-1 over Trine in the semifinals and 6-0, 6-0 over Hope in the finals, both at #3.
For Blackwell, the award was his first MIAA Player of the Week honor this season and second of his collegiate career (2/10/25). He also earned a spot on the All-MIAA Second Team in 2025-26.
Kalamazoo men's tennis will begin the NCAA Tournament Saturday (May 9) against #14 Washington University (MO) at Denison University in Granvile, Ohio, time TBA.
