Kalamazoo College softball had three student-athletes named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team, announced on Tuesday, May 26. Landrie Fridsma, Alyssa Hinkley and Emma Newlove each earned the honor.
To earn the distinction of CSC Academic All-District honors, the student-athlete must be at least a sophomore, achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, and play in 90 percent of the institution's games played or start in at least 66 percent of the institution's games. For pitchers, a student-athlete must have made at least 17 appearances or pitched 35 innings.
A junior outfielder from Grand Rapids, Mich. (East Kentwood), Fridsma played and started 23 games for the Hornets this season. She hit .258, led the team with 11 stolen bases, was second on the team with 14 runs and third in doubles with six. This is her second consecutive year earning Academic All-District recognition.
Hinkley, a sophomore outfielder from Kalamazoo, Mich. (Mattawan), played and started 32 games this season for Kalamazoo. She hit .182 with four doubles and drew six walks on the year, and filled in at shortstop late in the season, providing versatility in the field. This is her first time being named Academic All-District.
A senior infielder from Tecumseh, Mich. (Tecumseh), Newlove played in 31 games, starting 30, this year. She hit .260 with a team-high three home runs, seven doubles, 12 runs and 12 RBI, finishing her career with the Kalamazoo career records in RBI (83), home runs (18) and doubles (37). This is her third career Academic All-District award.
This season, the Hornets went 7-27 and 6-10 in MIAA competition.
