Kalamazoo College defender Eamonn Burns was named MIAA Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week Monday (Oct. 12).
A senior from Grand Rapids, Mich. (East Grand Rapids), Burns played a critical role in helping the Hornets shut out both Alma and Trine last week to open MIAA play 2-0, adding the game-winning goal Saturday at Trine.
Burns played 74 minutes in Kalamazoo's 3-0 win at Alma Wednesday, recording three shots with two on goal. He played a critical part on the back line in keeping a Scots team, that averages 2.5 goals per game on the year, scoreless.
Against the Thunder, Burns scored the first goal of his collegiate career in the ninth minute for the only goal in the Hornets' 1-0 victory. He played a season-high 85 minutes as Kalamazoo finished off a third consecutive shutout.
Kalamazoo men's soccer returns home for a meeting with The University of Olivet Tuesday at 7 p.m. at MacKenzie Field.
