ALMA, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team won its MIAA opener Wednesday at Alma College, 3-0.

The Hornets struck first in the 31st minute. Dhrruv Naik took a free kick from just inside midfield in the attacking half, delivering a great ball into the box that Zach Holden cashed in on a header through the right side.

Brody Plumstead extended the Hornets' lead in the 71st minute, drilling a penalty kick through the left side for the goal.

Lucas Ruiz scored after a chaotic sequence in the attacking end for Kalamazoo. After an initial shot pulled the Scots' goalkeeper out of position, Jake Sweet took aim at the open net, but his shot was blocked. Ruiz gathered the rebound and booted it through the left side of the net.

Brody Adalbert made eight saves in goal for the Hornets for his second straight shutout. Kalamazoo outshout Alma, 16-13, while the Scots had six corner kicks to two for the Hornets.
