ADA, Ohio – The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team played its final non-conference game of 2026 Sunday at Ohio Northern University, winning 1-0.
Neither team was able to score in the first half. Ohio Northern had seven shots, including two on goal, in the opening 45 minutes compared to four for the Hornets, with none on target.
Early in the second half, a penalty in the box gave Kalamazoo a penalty shot, and Lucas Ruiz buried it to give the Hornets the lead in the 46th minute.
Kalamazoo's defense, anchored by Brody Adalbert with four saves, kept the Polar Bears off the board to take the win. It was Adalbert's first collegiate win and shutout.
Ohio Northern led in shots, both total (22-18) and on goal (4-3), and earned six corner kicks to four for the Hornets.
Kalamazoo men's soccer opens MIAA play on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at Alma College at 4:30 p.m. Last season, the Hornets beat the Scots 3-0 for the team's fifth straight win in the series.
