Kalamazoo College's Lucas Ruiz and Evan Pollens-Voigt were both named to the All-MIAA men's soccer Second Team, the conference announced Wednesday. Pollens-Voigt also earned the Zuidema Award, presented annually to a senior selected for contributions to team play, leadership qualities, demonstration of ethical virtues and excellence in athletics and academics.
Pollens-Voigt, a senior defenseman from Kalamazoo, Mich. (Loy Norrix), earned the honor after starting in 14Â games this year for the Hornets, finishing the season with two goals, both in conference play.
Ruiz, a junior forward from Miami, Fla. (Westminster), led Kalamazoo and was tied for eighth in the MIAA with five goals this season, one in conference play, starting in all 17Â games. His goals included two game winners, tied for fifth-most in the conference.
Pollens-Voigt won the Hornets' first Zuidema Award since Matt Turton earned the honor in 2019. For both Pollens-Voigt and Ruiz, it was the first All-MIAA honor in their careers.
Kalamazoo men's soccer finished the season 4-9-4 overall and 2-2-3 in MIAA play.
