Six Kalamazoo College women's soccer student-athletes were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team, announced on Tuesday, Nov. 25. Elle Bernas, Jess Forbis, Aly Kemery, Kate Klahorst, Maeve Nolan and Anni Schnell received the honor this season.
To earn the distinction of CSC Academic All-District honors, the student-athlete must be a sophomore, achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, and appear in 90% of the team's games or start within 66% of the team's games.
Bernas, a senior forward from Grosse Pointe, Mich. (Grosse Pointe North), played and started all 20 games for the Hornets this season, totaling 1,688 minutes. A major piece of the offense, she was second on the team in goals (9), points (20), and shots (48), was tied for second in shots on goal (19) and game-winning goals (2). This is her third consecutive Academic All-District selection and she earned All-MIAA Second Team as well.
A sophomore from West Bloomfield Township, Mich. (International Academy), Forbis played 18 games, starting 17 in goal for Kalamazoo this season, finishing with 1,575 minutes. She earned a 9-5-3 record with a 1.20 goals-against average and a .784 save percentage. Her eight shutouts were tied for most in the MIAA.
Kemery, a senior midfielder from Kalamazoo, Mich. (Loy Norrix), played 19 games this season, starting 11 and playing 975 minutes. She helped the Hornets win the ball control game in many matches this season, and took 16 shots, earning 11 on goal. It is her second consecutive Academic All-District honor.
A junior defender from Grand Haven, Mich. (Grand Haven), Klahorst played 19 games for Kalamazoo this season, starting four and totaling 700 minutes. A critical piece of the Hornets' defense that allowed just 1.10 goals per game this year, Klahorst also earned one assist and took two shots, with one on goal. This is her second Academic All-District selection in a row.
Nolan, a sophomore midfielder from Berkley, Mich. (Berkley), played and started all 20 games this season, spending 1,622 minutes on the pitch for Kalamazoo. A difference-maker all over the field, she led the team in game-winning goals (3), was tied for third in both goals (4) and assists (3) to finish third outright in points (11).
Finally, a senior defender from Kalamazoo, Mich. (Loy Norrix), Schnell played and started 16 games for the Hornets, compiling 1,039 minutes this season. She made big plays from the back line almost every game, and earned one assist on the season with 15 shots, six on goal. This is her second consecutive Academic All-District Honor.
The Hornets finished the season 10-6-4 overall and 3-2-3 in MIAA play for fourth place in the conference.
