KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team won, SCORE, over Albion in the first round of the MIAA Tournament. With the win, the Hornets improve to 10-5-4 on the season and advance to the MIAA Semifinals Tuesday at Calvin.
Ruby Hogan opened the scoring with a goal in the 12th minute on a header from Savannah Norman, who delivered a great corner kick to set up Hogan's opening goal.
Elle Bernas tacked on a goal in the 29th minute after Kearsten Schultz delivered a great header to deliver Bernas the ball in space near the top of the box.
After Bernas had a shot go off the crossbar in the 33rd minute, Hogan was there to kick in the rebound to make it 3-0 Hornets.
Kalamazoo's defense controlled the second half, keeping Albion off the board before Hogan finished off her hat trick by heading in a corner kick from Norman in the 88th minute capped off the match.
The Hornets outshot the Britons, 16-9 overall and 8-5 in shots on goal. Kalamazoo also took 10 corner kicks to four for Albion. Jess Forbis made five saves for her eighth shutout of the season.
Kalamazoo will head to Grand Rapids, Mich. to face Calvin in the MIAA Semifinals Tuesday at 7 p.m.
