Softball Splits Road Doubleheader at Albion

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College softball team split a doubleheader with Albion College on the road on Thursday. After falling 4-3 in the first game, Kalamazoo won the second game 9-6.

Game One

Kalamazoo scored the game's first run in the third inning on an RBI single up the middle, but Albion answered in the bottom of the inning with a two-run home run. An RBI double by the Hornets in the fourth inning tied the game at two. In the sixth inning, the Britons worked a bases-loaded walk and a sacrifice fly for two runs and a 4-2 lead. Kalamazoo attempted a comeback in the seventh with a run off an Albion error but came up short. 

Kalamazoo had nine hits in the game compared to six by Albion.

Landrie Fridsma went 2-4 with two RBI and two stolen bases. Lizzy Rottenberk and Brynna Garden both had two hits. Mackenzie Moore had an RBI double. 

Maddy Vrba went the distance in the circle for Kalamazoo, allowing four runs on six hits and six walks with a strikeout.

Game Two

After Albion jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first, Kalamazoo responded with one run in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single. The Hornets then took a 4-3 lead in the second on a bases-clearing triple and added a solo home run in the third. The Britons cut the deficit in half with an RBI single in the fourth before Kalamazoo responded with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning. Albion tied the game in the fifth with a solo home run and an unearned run. The Hornets scored the final three runs in the fifth on a single and a two-RBI triple.

Kalamazoo had nine hits in the game to Albion's seven.

Lizzy Rottenberk went 3-3 with a two-RBI triple, a walk, and a stolen base. Emma Newlove went 2-4 with a home run and two RBI. 

Landrie Fridsma had the bases-clearing triple, and Mackenzie Moore collected an RBI single and a walk. Jaycee Rider had two hits and a stolen base.

Jordan Cook got the win in the circle after going five innings and allowing five runs on seven hits and five walks with a strikeout. Jordan Wesaw pitched the final two innings with three strikeouts.
