Softball Drops Two Close Games to Carleton and Buffalo State

CLERMONT, Fla. - The Kalamazoo College softball team fell in two more games in Florida, 9-6 in nine innings to Carleton and 3-2 on a walk-off to Buffalo State on Saturday.

Kalamazoo vs. Carleton

Kalamazoo scored the game's first three runs, with Hornets crossing the plate in the first, third, and fifth innings. Carleton responded with two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh to take a 5-3 lead. The Hornets scored two runs in the seventh to tie the game and force extra innings. Both teams scored a run each in the eighth before the Knights scored three in the ninth to win 9-6

Kalamazoo scored six runs on 10 hits, falling to 2-3. Middlebury finished with nine runs on 11 hits, improving to 8-5.

Landrie Fridsma went 4-5 at the plate, scoring all four times and collecting three stolen bases. Jordan Wesaw finished 2-5 with two RBI, and Bella Caza drove in two. Lizzy Rottenberk collected two hits and two stolen bases. 

Maddy Vrba went the distance in the circle and struck out nine batters.

Kalamazoo vs. Buffalo State

Kalamazoo scored a run in the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead, and then Buffalo State scored twice in the third to tie the game. The bats fell silent until the bottom of the seventh when the Bengals drove in the walk-off run on a sacrifice fly.

Kalamazoo scored two runs on four hits, falling to 2-4. Buffalo State finished with three runs on six hits, improving to 5-6.

Lizzy Rottenberk, Landrie Fridsma, Cecilia Schihl, and Mackenzie Moore each collected a hit. Brynna Garden and Rottenberk scored the two runs.

Jordan Cook pitched the whole game until the game-winning run crossed the plate and struck out six batters.

Up Next

Kalamazoo plays #17 MIT on Monday morning, followed by Gustavus Adolphus in the afternoon. Both games are scheduled for Legends Way Park in Clermont, Fla.
