Baseball Defeats Mt. Aloysius in NCAA Regional

Box Score

MARIETTA, Ohio - The Kalamazoo College baseball team won its first NCAA Regional game in dramatic fashion on Saturday beating Mount Aloysius 8-7 in 10 innings.

Kalamazoo trailed 5-2 after two innings and 6-2 after five. The Hornets made it 6-4 with a pair of runs in the sixth, but trailed 7-4 going into the bottom of the ninth inning.

The first two Hornets were retired in the bottom of the ninth before Max Gordon got things started with a single to center. Ben Chosid followed up with a single through the right side before Blake Bean loaded the bases with an infield single. After a pitching change, Doug Propson walked to make it a 7-5 game. Following another pitching change, Spencer Baldwin singled through the left side to drive in two to tie the game. The next Hornet batter grounded out, sending the game to extra innings.

Adam Dorstewitz retired the side in order in the top of the 10th. The first two Hornets struck out and flew out to start the 10th. Cooper Mills then doubled to left center, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Following David Stechow's walk, Ben Chosid singled to center, driving in the game-winning run for the Hornets.

Kalamazoo finished with 16 hits in the game compared to 13 by Mount Aloysius. The Mounties (27-15) also lost in 10 innings in their opening game to Christopher Newport yesterday.

Spencer Baldwin and Ben Chosid each had three hits with two RBIs. Blake Bean also had three hits. Cooper Mills had two hits including the double in the 10th. Max Gordon also had two hits.

Adam Dorstewitz (5-0) earned the win in relief, but the combination of Joe Wade, Brenden Oprinski, Alex Bowden and Dorstewitz combined to allow just two runs over the final six innings to keep the Hornets in the game.

Kalamazoo plays again Saturday at 6 p.m. against the loser of the Marietta/Christopher Newport game Saturday afternoon.
