Softball Sweeps Opening Day in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. - The Kalamazoo College softball team swept a pair of games on Thursday, its first day in Florida.

Kalamazoo vs. Smith

Kalamazoo won its first game on the spring trip 5-4 over Smith College Thursday morning. Kalamazoo scored one in the first and four in the fourth while allowing one run in the fourth and three in the fifth to the Pioneers. 

Lizzy Rottenberk and Amy McNutt each had three hits in the game. 

Nikki Gorder had two hits with a stolen base. Lucy Hart drove in three runs.

Kalamazoo vs. Macalester

Kalamazoo trailed 4-3 after three innings, and 5-3 after four, but scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull ahead and held on in the seventh for the 6-5 win.

Bella Caza and Julia Rambo each had two hits in the game.

Amy McNutt and Kelsey Diekman each had two RBIs.

Jordan Cook picked up the win in relief, striking out two and allowing just one run in 4.1 innings.
