CLERMONT, Fla. – After a 1-1 day yesterday, the Kalamazoo College softball team went 1-1 Sunday, Mar. 23 with a 10-2 win over Oberlin College (Ohio) and a 2-0 loss to Colby College (Me.).

In the win over Oberlin, the Hornets were paced by junior Querubin Dubois who tallied three hits and scored four runs. Junior Maddy Sinkovich went 2-3 including a sacrifice bunt scoring K's first run and a double plate the game's final run in the sixth.

After both teams scored a single run in the first, Kalamazoo exploded for four runs in the third fueled by a triple from junior Abby Anderson plating two runs.

Oberlin cut Kalamazoo's lead to 5-2 in the top of the fifth, but the Hornets put another four-spot on the scoreboard in the home half of the fifth. Freshman Kennedy Boulton cleared the bases with a double to left center field. Sophomore Megan Malish reached on an error scoring Boulton.

Kalamazoo ended the game in six innings with Sinkovich's RBI double.

"Q [Querubin Dubois] came out hitting for us," Kalamazoo Head Coach Sue Mattice said. "Her along with Maddy [Sinkovich] provide a lot of speed at the top of the lineup. They got on base today."

Junior Taylor Clements went the distance for Kalamazoo surrendering five hits in six innings of work. The Kalamazoo native gave up one earned run and walked four batters while striking out three.

"Taylor [Clements] was very solid today," Mattice said. "She kept the other team off balance and forced a lot of ground balls."

In the loss to Colby, freshman Erin DuRoss went the distant surrendering two hits in six innings. Coming off of her school record 14 strikeouts yesterday, DuRoss recorded eight strikeouts in the loss to Colby. Seven of these came in the first three innings.

Colby's two runs came off of Kalamazoo errors, one in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Offensively, sophomore catcher Dana Page led the way with two singles and a walk. Junior Grace Mathieu and sophomore Paige Maguire each had a hit in the contest.

"It's very exciting for us to see Erin [DuRoss] pitch the way she has in her first two games," Mattice said. "She was excellent today."

Kalamazoo is scheduled to play two games tomorrow, Mar. 24 – Elmhurst (Ill.) at 11:00 a.m. and Hamline (Mn.) at 3:00 p.m.
