Box Score 2 The Kalamazoo College softball team split a pair of games in Clermont, Fla. on Monday, losing the opener 9-8 to Colby before defeating D'Youville, 11-8.
Kalamazoo trailed Colby 9-5 going into the bottom of the seventh. The Hornets scored three runs to make it 9-8 and had the bases loaded with one out, but were unable to push the tying or winning run across.
Kalamazoo had seven hits in the game compared to nine for Colby. The Hornets were also walked 11 times while giving Colby six free passes. Kalamazoo left 12 runners on base, including the three in the seventh.
Abby Anderson was 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Grace Mathieu had a double and two runs scored. Emma Patrash also doubled while Victoria Najacht drove in a pair of runs.
In the second game, Kalamazoo trailed 7-6 after four innings before putting up four runs in the fifth to take a 10-7 lead. Each team scored a run in the sixth leading to the 11-8 victory for the Hornets.
Kalamazoo had 12 hits in the game while taking advantage of five D'Youville errors and six walks. D'Youville had nine hits while walking seven times.
Taylor Clements picked up her third win of the season in five innings of relief.
Abby Anderson was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Megan Malish was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Paige Maguire was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Emma Patrash had a double and two RBIs while Katie Mattison also had a double and Madeline Sinkovich tripled.
Kalamazoo returns to action in Clermont, Fla. on Wednesday against St. Benedict and St. Catherine.
