The Kalamazoo College softball team won its first two games of the season in Florida on Saturday, defeating New Paltz St. 7-5 in the opener followed by a 4-3 win over Carleton.

Kalamazoo trailed 5-3 after four innings in the opener, but the Hornets came back with three runs in the fifth and added an insurance run in the seventh to seal the 7-5 win.

Kalamazoo had 11 hits in the game compared to six for New Paltz St.

Abby Anderson was 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Emma Patrash was 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Rayanne Burl was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Madeline Sinkovich also had a double while Megan Malish drove in three runs.

Taylor Clements earned the complete game win on the mound.

In the second game, Abby Anderson hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to give the Hornets the lead over Carleton before Kalamazoo closed out the top of the seventh for the win.

Kalamazoo trailed 2-0 after three innings, but evened the score in the bottom of the fourth. The Hornets fell behind again in the fifth, 4-3, before Anderson's home run put the Hornets on top in the sixth.

Kalamazoo had six hits in the game compared to eight for Carleton.

Anderson was 2-for-3 with the two RBIs. Dana Page was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Rayanne Burl was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Victoria Najacht pitched the first four innings. Taylor Clements earned the win in relief.

Kalamazoo is scheduled to face Concordia (Wis.) and Indiana Tech on Sunday in Orlando.
