The Kalamazoo College baseball team will travel to Denison University in Granville, Ohio for the NCAA III Regional Tournament, set to start Friday, May 15.
Kalamazoo is scheduled to face SUNY Cortland in the first game of the double-elimination tournament, with Denison and Grinnell College on the other side of the bracket.
The Hornets earned the first at-large bid in program history, and just the second ever by an MIAA team, after tying a program record with 31 wins this season, heading into regionals at 31-11. Kalamazoo is ranked #22 by both D3baseball.com and the ABCA in their latest polls, which were released prior to the MIAA Tournament last week.
Cortland, the Hornets' first opponent, heads into regionals as the SUNYAC Champion at 29-10-1 after beating Oswego 2-1 in the best-of-three championship series. The Red Dragons were ranked #25 in last week's D3baseball.com poll and #26 by the ABCA.
The host Denison is the #1 ranked team in the nation at 40-1, while Grinnell earned the automatic bid from the Midwest Conference and is currently unranked at 25-16. The winners of Friday's games will advance to the winners' bracket on Saturday, while the losers will face off in an elimination game also on Saturday.
This marks Kalamazoo's third time in the NCAA Division III Championships, after earning the MIAA automatic bid in both 2016 and 2022.
