Two members of the Kalamazoo College baseball team –
Robert Newland and
David Stechow- were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, as announced on Tuesday, June 3
rd.
To earn this honor, the student-athlete must be a starter or an important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA, and have played at least 90% or start in 66% of their team's competitions, and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
The 2025 Kalamazoo College baseball team wrapped up its season with a 28-16 overall record, marking the fifth consecutive year the Hornets have secured 25 or more wins.
Senior second baseman Stechow, from Oakland, Mich. (University of Detroit Jesuit), earned his third career CSC Academic All-District honor. Earlier in the season, Stechow was named to the All-MIAA Second Team.
He finished the 2025 season with a .289 batting average and a .322 slugging percentage, collecting 43 hits, 35 runs, and 21 RBIs. He also ranked third on the team with 15 stolen bases and posted a .952 fielding percentage.
Junior outfielder Newland, from Bloomfield Hills, Mich. (Bloomfield Hills High School), received CSC Academic All-District recognition for the second time in his career.
Newland finished the season with a .234 batting average and a .274 slugging percentage, totaling 29 hits, 26 runs, and 14 RBIs. He was second on the team in stolen bases with 18 and matched Stechow's .952 fielding percentage on defense.
