Baseball Earns Five All-MIAA Honorees

The Kalamazoo College baseball team earned five All-MIAA Honors this season: Caleb Moore, Cooper Mills, Logan Lockhart, Ryar Rinehart, and David Stechow, as announced by the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association on Thursday, April 8th.

Moore, a sophomore catcher from Pinckney, Mich. (Charyl Stockwell), earned All-MIAA First-Team honors after recording the Hornets' highest batting average and on-base percentage this season.

Starting in 37 games, Moore compiled an impressive stat line: 56 hits, 43 RBIs, 32 runs, 12 doubles, two triples, and two home runs. He finished with a .431 batting average, .521 on-base percentage, and a .600 slugging percentage. Defensively, Moore posted a .993 fielding percentage and threw out nine runners attempting to steal.

Moore leads the MIAA in batting average, ranks second in on-base percentage, and is third in hits, slugging percentage, and OPS.

He was also named MIAA Player of the Week on March 10 and earned a spot on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week on March 12.

Mills, the fifth-year shortstop from Commerce Twp., Mich. (St. Mary's Prep), earned his second All-MIAA First-Team honors after leading the Hornets in runs and stolen bases.

Mills started all 41 games this season, setting a new program record with 175 career games played. He tallied 54 hits, 53 runs, 35 stolen bases, 27 RBIs, seven doubles, two triples, and hit his first career home run.

He finished with a .340 batting average, .465 on-base percentage, and .428 slugging percentage.

In the MIAA, Mills led the conference in both runs scored and stolen bases. He was honored as MIAA Position Player of the Week on April 28.

Lockhart, a junior utility player from Valparaiso, Ind. (Valparaiso), earned All-MIAA First-Team honors after excelling both at the plate and on the mound.

As a pitcher, he recorded a 5-2 record with a team-best 3.02 ERA, throwing 50 innings with 46 hits allowed, 22 runs, and 40 strikeouts.

At the plate, Lockhart added 45 hits, 37 runs, 33 RBIs, 11 doubles, 11 stolen bases, and one home run, posting a .331 batting average, .426 on-base percentage, and .434 slugging percentage.

In the conference rankings, he sits sixth in runs scored and ninth in both RBIs and doubles.

Additionally, he was named the MIAA Pitcher of the Week on April 21st and earned a spot on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week.

Rinehart, the junior first baseman from Rockford, Mich. (West Catholic), earned All-MIAA Second Team honors for the third time in his career after leading the Hornets in hits, RBIs, and home runs. He also topped the team in slugging and OPS.

Rinehart started every game, racking up 60 hits, 58 RBIs, 37 runs, 13 home runs, 12 doubles, and two triples. He posted a .380 batting average, .455 on-base percentage, and a .728 slugging percentage.

Rinehart set program records for single-season home runs (13), career home runs (29), and single-game marks for hits (6), RBIs (9), doubles (4), and home runs (3).

He led the MIAA this season in slugging percentage, RBIs, and home runs, and was named MIAA Position Player of the Week twice, on February 24 and April 21.

Stechow, the senior second baseman from Oakland, Mich. (University of Detroit Jesuit), earned All-MIAA Second Team honors for the third time in his career.

He recorded 43 hits, 32 runs, 21 RBIs, 15 stolen bases, three doubles, and one triple while batting .309 with a .389 on-base percentage and .345 slugging percentage.

Defensively, he recorded a .954 fielding percentage. 

In the MIAA Conference, he ranks sixth in stolen bases and ninth in runs scored.

The Hornets continue postseason play in the MIAA Tournament, taking on Alma at noon in the semifinals. The winner will advance to Friday's championship game at noon, while the loser will play in the elimination bracket on Thursday at 6 p.m.
