ADRIAN, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College baseball team's season came to an end in the MIAA Tournament championship round on Friday at Adrian. The host and top-seeded Bulldogs won the first game 9-0 to force a second game. Adrian won the second game 8-7 in 12 innings to win the tournament championship and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA III Tournament.
Game One – Adrian 9, Kalamazoo 0
Adrian scored two runs in the first and led 3-0 after five innings. The Bulldogs added three in the eighth and three in the ninth while holding Kalamazoo scoreless to force a second game for the tournament title.
Adrian outhit Kalamazoo 12-4 in the game.
Tanner Hawkins' double was the only extra-base hit for the Hornets.
Game Two – Adrian 8, Kalamazoo 7 (12 inn.)
Adrian scored runs in each of the first three innings to take a 6-0 lead. Kalamazoo scored four in the fifth and one in the sixth to make it a 6-5 game. The Hornets tied it with a run in the eighth. A scoreless ninth sent the game to extra innings.
Austin Keur hit a home run with two outs in the top of the 10
th to put Kalamazoo up 7-6. Adrian loaded the bases with two outs and scored on a walk before a strikeout sent the game to the 11
th. Adrian had runners on first and second with two outs when another strikeout sent the game to the 12
th. Kalamazoo was retired in order in the top half. Two hits and an intentional walk loaded the bases in the bottom half before a single to left drove in the game-winner for Adrian.
Adrian finished with 18 hits compared to 12 by Kalamazoo.
Cooper Mills finished with four hits including a double.
Cade Preissing had three hits in the game.
Caleb Moore had a triple and two RBIs.
Kalamazoo finishes the season 28-16 overall, the fifth consecutive season with 25 or more wins.
