HOLLAND, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team defeated Hope 16-2 Friday to win the 2022 MIAA Tournament championship Friday afternoon. With the win, Kalamazoo earns the league's automatic bid to the NCAA III Baseball Championships. 

After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, Kalamazoo scored four runs in the top of the second, two in the fourth and five in the fifth to take an 11-1 lead. Kalamazoo added a run in the top of the seventh before Hope made it 12-2 with a run in the bottom of the eighth. The Hornets pushed four more across in the top of the ninth before closing out the game with a scoreless bottom half.

Kalamazoo had 12 hits in the game while limiting Hope to seven.

Spencer Baldwin had three hits including a double and a home run with two RBIs. Ben Chosid also had three hits with two RBIs.

Lukas Bolton had a pair of doubles with an RBI. Blake Bean drove in three runs with a home run in the second inning. Doug Propson double and drove in two runs.

Five Hornet pitchers combined for nine strikeouts while allowing just seven hits and two runs.

The trip to the NCAA Championships will be the second in school history. The tournament field is scheduled to be announced Monday, May 16 at 12 p.m. ET on NCAA.com.
