Baseball Hits Record Six Home Runs in Win at Hope

HOLLAND, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College broke the school record with six home runs in a 12-9 win at Hope College on Monday. The win gives Kalamazoo the season series (2-1) over the league-leading Flying Dutchmen.

Kalamazoo hit five home runs in the first four innings to take a 9-0 lead. Kalamazoo's record-breaking sixth home run came in the sixth inning and put the Hornets up 10-0.

Hope began chipping away with four in the bottom of the sixth, two in the seventh and one in the eighth, making it a 10-7 game. Kalamazoo scored two more in the top of the ninth to make it 12-7. Hope scored twice in the bottom of the ninth and had runners on second and third when Brenden Oprinski came in and got the final out on a strikeout for the save.

Kalamazoo had 14 hits in the game, six of which were home runs. Hope finished with 13 hits.

Spencer Baldwin was 2-for-4 with two home runs and five RBIs.

Doug Propson was 4-for-5 with two doubles and a home run.

Harrison Poeszat was 4-for-5 with two solo home runs and a triple. Max Gordon also hit a home run. Lukas Bolton had a triple.

Cade Thune earned the win in his first collegiate start in his 37th appearance, striking out six while allowing four runs in five innings.

Kalamazoo is scheduled to travel to Elmhurst on Wednesday, April 27 for a 6 p.m. Central start.
