Baseball Splits Series Finale with Hope

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team split two games with Hope on Saturday in its series finale with the Flying Dutchmen. The Hornets took game one 8-4 and dropped the second game by a 12-2 margin. 

Game One

Kalamazoo defeated Hope 8-4 in the first game of the day. The Hornets took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, which switched over to a Hope advantage as the Flying Dutch scored four runs in the bottom of the second. 

The Hornets scored one run in the fourth and took back the lead in the fifth inning, as Noah Hecht hit an RBI double and Ben Chosid scored two more with a hit out to right field. They sealed the win with a final run in the top of the seventh brought on by a double from Ryan Morgan. Kalamazoo finished with 11 hits to Hope's four. 

Chosid went 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs. Poezsat hit a home run, a double and drove in two runs. Noah Hecht finished with two hits for the Hornets. Doug Propson, Austin Duff and Ryan Morgan also each had doubles. 

Thomas Sylvester pitched the first three innings, recording four strikeouts. Doug Propson came in midway through the third inning to earn the save and move to 1-0 on the season. He faced 12 batters and had six strikeouts. 

Game Two

The Hornets took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, highlighted by an RBI single to center field by Noah Hecht and a single out to left field by Harrison Poeszat to score Hecht. The two runs would end up being the only ones for Kalamazoo as Hope took the lead with seven runs in the bottom of the first. The Flying Dutchmen went on to score four more runs over the next four innings.

Hope had nine hits while Kalamazoo had seven. 

Hecht was 2-for-3 with one RBI. Poeszat, Spencer Baldwin, Amani Karim, Ben Chosid and Cooper Mills also contributed hits, Mills hitting one double. Hecht and Karim were the only Hornets to score in the contest. 

Up Next

Kalamazoo is scheduled to begin a five-game series with Calvin next week, with game one taking place at home on March 30.
