Baseball Takes Two From Trine

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo college baseball team swept Trine in a non-conference doubleheader at Woodworth Field on Saturday. Kalamazoo won the opener 3-0 before winning the second game 14-10.

Game One

Kalamazoo scored an unearned run in the first before making it 3-0 with a 2-run home run by Spencer Baldwin in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Kalamazoo had seven hits in the game while holding Trine to four. Blake Bean, Noah Hecht, and Spencer Baldwin each had two hits. 

Jack Brockhaus struck out 11 while walking two and allowing four hits in the complete-game win.

Game Two

Kalamazoo won the second game 14-10. The Hornets led 5-2 after three innings and 6-4 after four. Trine went ahead 7-6 in the fifth and led again 9-7 in the top of the sixth before Kalamazoo scored five in the bottom half to regain the lead 12-9. Kalamazoo added a run in the seventh and eighth innings to go up 14-9. Trine scored once in the 9th to make it 14-10 with two runners on and the tying run on deck when Doug Propson struck out the final batter to secure the win and earn the save.

Kalamazoo scored 14 runs on 13 hits while Trine scored 10 runs on 17 hits. Each team had five errors.

Chase Coselman led the Hornets offensively going 3-for-5 with a triple and three runs scored. Trevor Hunsanger and Ben Chosid each had two hits. Doug Propson homered to deep center field and had two RBIs. Harrison Poeszat, Austin Duff, and Chosid also had two RBIs apiece. Duff had a triple while Max Gordon homered deep to left field.

Alex Bowden was credited with the win in relief while Propson recorded the save.

Kalamazoo (4-0) is scheduled to play Adrian and Hope in Westfield, Ind. next Saturday, March 20.
