Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PASADENA, Calif. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team finished its four-game set in California with a pair of wins over Caltech on Saturday afternoon as the Hornets defeated the Beavers 1-0 in game one and 10-4 in extra innings in game two.

Game 1

Jack Tagget was the story for the Hornets in game one as the senior delivered a gem on the mound in his first outing of 2020. Tagget pitched a complete-game shutout as he struck out six batters while allowing just three hits during the seven-inning game.

The lone run of the game came off the bat of Ben Chosid as the sophomore shortstop drove in Austin Duff on a groundout in the top of the second inning.

Amani Karim, Harrison Poeszat, and Zach Prystach each tallied hits for the Hornets. Prystach reached base twice in the game as he walked in the fourth inning.

Game 2

The Hornets completed the Saturday sweep of the Beavers in game two as they used 11 hits to earn a 10-4 victory.

Kalamazoo got on the board in the first inning as freshman Harrison Poeszat delivered a double down the rightfield line to bring home Chase Coselman

After surrendering three runs in the bottom of the first, Kalamazoo responded with two of its own in the third on a Noah Hecht sacrifice fly and a wild pitch to tie the game at 3-3.

The teams traded runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a tie ballgame into the eighth inning. The Hornets exploded for six in the top of the eighth to take a commanding lead and win the game.

Blake Bean delivered a big game from the lead-off spot of the lineup as he tallied two hits, scored two runs, and drove in three more.

Poeszat also had a pair of hits while driving in a run of his own.

Duff, Noah Hecht, and Doug Propson each had one hit and drove in a run apiece.

Six Hornet pitchers combined to allow zero earned runs while striking out five batters. Propson earned the win as he delivered a scoreless seventh inning.

Kalamazoo returns to play on Saturday, March 7 at Earlham with a double-header that is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. EST.
