Marquis nets three as men's lacrosse falls

Box Score

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – In front of a large crowd at MacKenzie Field Saturday afternoon, the Kalamazoo College men's lacrosse team wasn't able to come away with the result it wanted as Hope College took home a 22-7 win in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association action.

The Flying Dutchmen set the pace from the beginning opening the game on a 5-0 run but a timeout from Kalamazoo head coach Vince Redko at the 10:19 mark of the first quarter allowed the Hornets to settle in.

The Hornets scored back-to-back goals out of the timeout courtesy of Clapton Marquis and Hans Wieland to get themselves within three.

But the Flying Dutchmen responded. Hope ended the half on an 8-0 run which proved ultimately to be the difference.

The Hornets rallied late in the fourth quarter scoring four goals. They scored five total in the second half.

Marquis led the way on the attack for K scoring a team-high three goals. Brett Fitzgerald added two goals and an assist.

Nate Silverman made 16 saves in goal for the Hornets.

Kalamazoo will look to improve to 1-3 in the MIAA when they travel to Olivet College on Wednesday, April 19.
