Box Score

KALAMAZOO, MI - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team fell 73-60 to No. 15 Calvin on Wednesday night. The Hornets drop to 9-7 overall and 4-4 in conference play, while the Knights remain undefeated in both.

Kalamazoo played well and kept Calvin within close striking distance in the first half. A Kelsey Adamski jump shot with 8:29 remaining cut the lead to 21-19. Kelsey Adamski and Grace Smith were both fantastic for Kalamazoo in the first half combining for 14 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Smith also added four first half rebounds. Kalamazoo went into the half only trailing the Knights by eight.

At many points in the second half the Knights pushed their lead up to the high teens, but they never could quite escape Kalamazoo entirely. Despite being pressed virtually the entire game, the Hornets were able to stay within striking distance all the way until the game's final minutes. A very pretty and 1 finish for Veronica Hayden off a perfect feed from Kelsey Adamski sparked a 5-0 run that cut Calvin's lead to 12 with just under six minutes remaining. Unfortunately for the Hornets Calvin hit 11 threes and seemed to have one lined up to answer every one of Kalamazoo's mini-runs.

Kelsey Adamski and Grace Smith were the stars tonight, combining for 28 points on 13-of-26 shooting. Adamski also had four assists and Smith had eight rebounds. Perri Nicholson had a nice game as she battled with Calvin's tough post players for nine points and eight rebounds. Querubin Dubois had eight points, three rebounds, and four steals as she started in place of Hornet leading scorer Emily Lindsay. Lindsay was limited by an injury and was only able to play for eight minutes.

Kalamazoo will have to regroup quickly to stay within the top four of the conference as it takes on Trine at home on Saturday, Jan. 24.
