The Kalamazoo College baseball team lost a pair of games at Hope on Thursday, 12-8 and 8-6.

Kalamazoo jumped on the board early in the opener, scoring six runs in the top of the first inning. Hope responded with eight runs in the bottom half, however, and added two more in the second to take a 10-6 lead.

Hope added another run in the fourth, but Kalamazoo used a five-run fifth inning to even the score at 11-11. The Flying Dutchmen pulled ahead again with a run in the bottom half. Kalamazoo had two runners on with one out in the seventh, but a double play ended the rally and the game.

Kalamazoo had 12 hits in the game while Hope had 11. Each team left eight runners on base.

Scott Devine was 3-for-5 with a pair of runs. Eric Glanz was 2-for-5 with a double and five RBIs. K.J. Schultz and Chaise Kahlenbeck were both 2-for-3. Kahlenbeeck had three RBIs.

In the second game, Kalamazoo led 3-1 after the second inning, but Hope scored two runs in the third and five in the fourth to take a 8-3 lead. Kalamazoo chipped away with a run in the fifth and two in the sixth, but could not get any closer in the loss.

Hope had 10 hits in the game compared to four for Kalamazoo. The Flying Dutchmen were charged with six errors in the game while Kalamazoo was charged with two leading to four unearned runs.

David Menoian was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Marc Zughaib had a single and two RBIs. Scott Devine also had a single.

Kalamazoo is scheduled to play its first games in Kalamazoo on Friday when the Hornets host Finlandia University in non-conference play beginning at 2 p.m. at Homer Stryker Field.
