Kalamazoo College's Juliana Pullen was named MIAA Women's Tennis Most Valuable Player, among three Hornets that earned All-MIAA recognition, the conference announced Wednesday. Along with Pullen, Addison Lyons earned First Team honors, while Eleni Bougioukou claimed a spot on the Second Team.
Pullen, a junior from Ann Arbor, Mich. (Pioneer), went 7-1 in singles and 7-1 in doubles in conference play, all at #1. On the year, Pullen was 16-2 in singles and 15-3 in doubles, playing all 18 matches for Kalamazoo at #1 in both singles and doubles. She is currently ranked #14 in the Central Region in singles by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
A sophomore from Fort Gratiot, Mich. (Port Huron Northern), Lyons finished the season 7-1 in singles, all at #2, and 7-1 at #1 doubles with Pullen, in MIAA matches. In total, she went 17-7 in singles matches, 14-4 at #2, and 16-7 in doubles, including 15-3 at #1.
Bougioukou, a senior from Agios Stefanos, Greece (Arsakeio Tositseio Ekalis), went 5-3 at #3 singles and 4-3 in doubles, all at #2, in conference this season. She finished the year 10-8 in singles, 10-6 at #3, and 8-9 at #2 doubles.
For Pullen, the MVP adds on to her third consecutive First Team All-MIAA honor. Lyons has also been on the First Team in both of her collegiate seasons, while it's the first career all-conference award for Bougioukou.
Kalamazoo women's tennis went 6-2 in MIAA play, tying for second place in the conference, and are 13-6 overall. The Hornets play at Hope College Thursday at 4 p.m. in the MIAA Tournament Presented by Collegiate Credit Union Semifinal.
