Kalamazoo College's Cameron Crosby was named MIAA Men's Tennis Most Valuable Player, among three Hornets that earned All-MIAA recognition, the conference announced Wednesday. Along with Crosby, Alex Fleming earned First Team honors, while Derek Blackwell claimed a spot on the Second Team.
Crosby, a sophomore from South Lyon, Mich. (South Lyon), went 7-0 in singles and 5-1 in doubles in conference play, all at #1. Overall this season, he went 17-7 in singles play including 12-6 at #1 in the Hornets' 18 dual matches, and 12-9 in doubles, 10-7 at #1 in dual play.
A junior from Troy, Mich. (Roeper), Fleming finished the season 6-1 in singles, all at #2, and 5-1 at #1 doubles with Crosby, in MIAA matches. On the year, he went 12-6 in singles, playing as the Hornets' #2 in all 18 dual matches, and 9-7 in doubles including 9-6 at #1.
Blackwell, a sophomore from Troy, Mich. (Troy), went 7-0 at #3 singles and 5-2 in doubles, 4-1 at #2 and 1-1 at #3, in conference this season. He finished the year 17-7 in singles, 14-4 at #3, and 9-13 in doubles.
Last season, Crosby earned First Team All-MIAA honors as a freshman. This is also Fleming's third consecutive season on the First Team, while it was Blackwell's first time earning All-MIAA recognition.
Kalamazoo men's tennis went 7-0 in MIAA play and 13-5 overall this season. The Hornets host Trine University for the semifinals of the MIAA Tournament, Presented by Collegiate Credit Union, Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Stowe Stadium.
