ATLANTA, Ga. – The Kalamazoo College women's outdoor track and field team opened the season at the Emory Spring Break Classic this weekend in Atlanta.
Saturday Results
The Hornets' 4x800m relay of Maddie Hanulcik, Zenaida Sackett, Maya Alkema and Madie Miller finished second at 9:57.21. Hanulcik also came in 21st out of 78 runners in the 800m at 2:26.41.
Grace Murphy finished ninth in the 3000m at 11:27.18, while Elise Elliot was 12th at 11:33.41. Sackett placed 11th out of 71 runners in the 1500m open class at 5:09.33.
Gwyneth Dunaway posted a 400m time of 1:02.48. Zara Strauss threw a distance of 9.87m in the shot put and 27.63m in the discus, and Ava Bechler posted a long jump of 4.40m.
Friday Results
Dunaway finished 47th out of 109 athletes in the 200m at 26.38. Alkema qualified for the 1500m invitational, finishing 14th out of 26 runners at 4:56.15
Strauss threw javelin for Kalamazoo for the first time, earning a distance of 20.60m. Miller opened up steeplechase competition for the Hornets with a sixth place finish at 12:39.25.
Kalamazoo women's track and field will continue outdoor season and close out the spring break trip at the WashU Distance Carnival and SLU Speed/Power Festival next weekend The Distance Carnival will be Thursday and Friday, with the Speed/Power Festival on Friday afternoon.
