Men's Tennis Wins MIAA Tournament

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's tennis team defeated Calvin 5-3 on Friday to win the MIAA Tournament and advance to the NCAA III Championships.

Kalamazoo trailed 2-1 after losses at two and three doubles. Gabe Vidinas/Alex Fleming won 8-1 at one doubles.

The Hornets battled back and won the match with wins at one, two, three and four singles.

Vidinas won 6-1, 7-5 at one singles. Adnan Alousi won 6-2, 6-2 at two. Fleming won 6-3, 6-1 at four. Julian Bilbao won 6-3, 6-2 at four.

Calvin won at six singles and had won the first set at five singles.

Kalamazoo lost to Calvin 5-4 in the first conference match of the season on May 3 inside the Markin Center. A Knights 5-4 loss to Trine followed by Kalamazoo's 7-2 win over Trine made a three-way tie for the regular season championship, Kalamazoo's 89th overall and seventh straight.

As the top seed in the tournament, Kalamazoo defeated Hope 5-1 in a semifinal on Wednesday, setting up Friday's rematch with Calvin for the tournament title. The Hornets' conference tournament championship is the 41st in school history and the sixth consecutive.

With the win, Kalamazoo advances to the 2024 NCAA III Championships. This will be Kalamazoo's 47th NCAA III Championships appearance. The Hornets have won seven titles and finished second on four occasions. Tournament information will be announced on the NCAA.com selection show on Monday, May 6, at 12:30 pm ET, and posted afterward on hornets.kzoo.edu.
