Football Shuts Out Finlandia

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College football team defeated Finlandia 44-0 at Angell Field Saturday afternoon.

Both of Kalamazoo's wins this season have been shutouts. It's the first time since 1991 Kalamazoo has shut out two teams in a season.

Kalamazoo put up 423 yards of total offense while limiting Finlandia to 88 total yards. The Hornets ran for 353 yards, the second-highest total in school history and most since 1917.

Greg Kearns opened the scoring with a 33-yard field goal midway through the first quarter. Kalamazoo went up 10-0 when Tristan James blocked a punt and Brenden Shelby recovered and ran it in for a touchdown.

Jared Pittman rushed for 182 yards on 21 carries. He scored on a 4-yard run early in the second quarter and on a 7-yard run late in the second putting the Hornets up 24-0 going into halftime.

CJ Foster rushed for 129 yards on 19 carries. He scored on a 2-yard run early in the third putting Kalamazoo up 31-0.

Niko Nickson was 5-for-7 passing for 67 yards. He scored on a 3-yard run midway through the third giving Kalamazoo a 37-0 lead.

Robert Ledesma completed the scoring for the Hornets with a 4-yard run late in the third. He finished with 33 yards on seven carries.

Raekwon Castelow had one catch for 39 yards. Sam Matthews had three catches for 22 yards.

Josh Martin led the Hornet defense with seven tackles, including 2.5 for lost yards with 1.5 sacks. Alex Stockwell made six tackles with 3.5 for lost yards.

Dakota Walbeck and Noah Coplan each made five tackles. Coplan had four tackles for loss with two sacks. Jacob Robertson and Isaiah Fleming were also in on sacks.

Kalamazoo is back in action at home next Saturday, Oct. 19 at 2 p.m.when the Hornets host Albion during Homecoming.
