Men's Tennis loses season opener 5-4 to Aquinas

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's tennis team lost its 2015 season opener 5-4 to Aquinas College in the Markin Center on Saturday. The visiting Saints entered the match ranked No. 13 nationally in the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics).

Aquinas got off to a fast start and swept the three doubles points. The matches at No. 1 and 2 doubles were very competitive, with Aquinas pulling out an 8-6 win at No. 1 and a 9-8(3) win at No. 2.

Kalamazoo responded strongly by winning the first two matches at one and two singles. David DeSimone won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 followed by Branden Metzler's 6-2(2), 6-3 win at No. 1.

Kalamazoo proceeded to win two of the next three matches (3 & 5) to even the match at 4-4. Robert Hudson won 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(4) at No. 3 to keep the Hornets chances alive, but the Saints won in straight sets at six singles to clinch the win.

Kalamazoo returns to action at home on Sunday, Feb. 8 against Ohio Wesleyan at 10 a.m.
