KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College men's tennis team defeated Calvin College 6-1 at Stowe Stadium on Friday to win the MIAA Tournament and earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA III Championships.
Kalamazoo took two of the three doubles points before winning four singles matches to seal the win.
Peter Rothstein and Stephen Hanselman won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles while Robert Hudson and Mike Korn won 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.
David DeSimone earned the first singles victory 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4. Mike Korn followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 3.
Peter Rothstein (6-1, 6-4) and Stephen Hanselman (6-4, 6-1) closed out the match with simultaneous wins at No. 1 and 2, respectively.
Kalamazoo will learn its opening round opponent and location at the NCAA III Championships early next week.
At the conclusion of the tournament three Kalamazoo College players were presented with All-MIAA honors. Peter Rothstein was named to the first team while Stephen Hanselman and Mike Korn were named to the second team.
